The forged, variable-thickness maraging-steel face is 9% thinner for more flexing and creates metal-wood-like bending in the transition areas (sole and top), resulting in faster ball speeds and higher max height.

Among the key advancements in the i540 iron is the inR-Air Technology. This patent pending technology by PING relies on an air bag strategically placed behind the face inside the cavity that filters frequencies for improved sound and feel without restricting bending. The molecular compound of the TPU insert was chosen for its ability to maintain pressurisation and underwent extensive testing, including temperature, environmental, elevation and air travel.
